Humility is necessary

“If God prefers humility it is not to dishearten us: rather, humility is the necessary condition to be raised by him, so as to experience the mercy that comes to fill our emptiness.” — Pope Francis

Reflection: Are you experiencing emptiness right now? Where or how? What would feel like God’s mercy in these circumstances? One description of Christian humility is “taking up the right amount of space, not too little or too much.” When are you likely to belittle or discount your personal impact on a larger cause? Where in your life do you give too much emphasis on your own achievements or desires?
